The Best Man Toast

The best man toast is one of the most anticipated and important in the wedding.  It can literally make or break the wedding reception.  Every best man has his s own uniqueness in delivering this well awaited speech. Like other wedding speeches, the best man toast can is also called the best man speech.  As the best man, you will need to plan and prepare for the best man speech to sound confident and funny.   Even though you are well prepared, the best man toast should not sound memorized or rehearsed.  It must sound rather “off the cuff” or from the heart.  You may say a few “ahs” or “you know what I mean” that are taboo for speech classes and professional speakers.  These rules do not apply here.

I used a wedding speech guide to help me formulate a more organized talk.  It give me a lot ideas for jokes and stories.  Here is the link below if you want to check out the website:

Best Man Toasts

You must deliver the heartfelt message to the wedding guests.   The talk should be focused on the groom and good, the bad, and the ugly times that you had together.

Before delivering any speech, think about the messages you want to share. They have to be generally good to be heard by the public and  friends.

Now best man toast goes much deeper than most public speaking events because you are sharing personal stories.  This is not a lecture or learning moment.  Steer clear of giving too much advice.  Save that one for the father of the bride speech.

You can share  what the groom likes or dislikes.  Maybe he has some strange eating habits like peanut butter and pickle sandwiches-share this too and get a belly full of laughs!. Anything you’d like to share about the groom is acceptable as long as it does not hurt or offend anyone, especially the bride. Keep the mood of his speech with reverence and respect is the ideal type of best man speech to do.

Then congratulate the couple on share how excited that you are to see the married (finally!).  Your comments about the bride and groom must be personal and sincere.  Don’t be phony or too sweet.

If you want to be funny or joke around, clear the jokes with the groom well in advance.  Steer clear of mother in law jokes.  We all know that most of the jokes are true and funny as all get out.  If you want to joke coarsely, do it at the bachelor party that you are also planning.  (You had better be planning the party!)

Finally, give thanks to the  bride and groom  and ask her to take good care of your best friend.  Actually, tell her that you know that she will take great care of him. Most importantly, thank both of them for choosing you to be the best man in their wedding entourage.

Give thanks to all the guest for taking part in this big day and lift your glass in a celebratory toast.

I would definitely use a best man speech guide to keep on track.  Check out the link below to get more information about tips, information and speech samples for delivering the best man toast.
